Daniel Reis served as a 12b Combat Engineer with the 569th Engineers searching for and disarming IEDs (Improvised Explosive Device). While serving in Afghanistan in 2012 at FOB (Forward Operating Base) Spin Buldak in the southern Kandahar province Daniel was credited with finding 25 IED and received a 25 find coin.
On July 12, 2012, Gen. John R. Allen, commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, recognized soldiers including Daniel Reis, for their achievements during a command visit to FOB Spin Buldak. Spc. Daniel Reis, from Levittown, N.Y., received recognition for being the lead driver with Route Clearance Package 27, which is part of 1st Platoon, 569th Engineer Company, 223rd Engineer Battalion. “His attention to detail and continual drive to improve his skill made him a key asset within his platoon,” said Capt. Matt Gilroy, personnel officer for the 1-17th Infantry. “His actions cleared several IEDs from the most dangerous routes in our AO [area of operations] and saved countless lives.”
Before serving in Afghanistan Daniel did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and served at Fort Irwin, CA finishing up his service at Fort Carson, CO.
After leaving the Army Daniel became an electrician and joined IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) local 113 in Colorado Springs, CO before transferring to IBEW local 25 Long Island, NY. Daniel wife Lys is also a U.S. Army Veteran, and both are members of Long Island Warriors Hockey, a hockey club that aims to provide a recreational hockey program and team for military Veterans.
